(i) Except as provided elsewhere in this section, the employer must ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling by one or more of the following: (A) Guardrail systems per 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i)(A); (B) Safety net systems per 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i)(B); or (C) Personal fall protection systems, such as personal fall arrest, travel restraint, or positioning systems per 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i)(C). Warehouse, Crown SP 3400 stockpicker: on or about July 16, 2018, employees were assigned to operate subject stockpicker with an unprotected long side of the operator's platform to pick products from inventory rack locations at heights over four feet above the adjacent ground level. Employees were exposed to fall hazards because adequate fall prevention and/or protection systems were not provided, and use of a body belt with retractable lanyard did not prevent and/or protect against falling.
